Description

The Australian Operational Service Medal (AOSM) Border Protection is a military service medal awarded to members of the Australian Defense Force (ADF) who have served in border protection operations, including the interception and management of maritime arrivals of irregular immigrants, illegal fishing activities, and other related operations.

Eligibility

The medal was established on July 14, 2010, and is awarded for service in Australian border protection operations since the cessation of Operation Relex II on December 17, 2006. Eligible operations include border protection operations such as Operation Resolute, Operation Sovereign Borders, and Operation Relex II.

Design

The medal features a central design of the Australian Commonwealth Coat of Arms on the obverse, surrounded by the words "Australian Operational Service Medal" and "Border Protection." The reverse of the medal displays a stylized version of a Southern Cross constellation.

Ribbon

The ribbon of the AOSM Border Protection is green with two gold stripes and two blue stripes. The green symbolizes Australia's maritime borders, while the blue represents the seas that the ADF has protected. The gold stripes represent the ADF's contribution to border protection operations.
