The Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) 1991 is awarded to members of the Australian Defence Force for distinguished leadership in warlike operations. It recognises outstanding service by individuals who show exceptional skill, judgement, or dedication in operational command roles, particularly in combat environments.
The medal is circular and made of nickel-silver. The obverse features a seven-pointed Federation Star with flames of action between each point, symbolising excellence in combat leadership. The medal is surmounted by the Crown of St Edward. The reverse is plain and engraved with the recipient’s name. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon is silver-grey with three vertical red stripes. The red signifies the danger and intensity of warlike service, while the silver-grey reflects professionalism and discipline.

SPECIFICATIONS:If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.
