Introducing the Lieutenant Guy Haydon and Midnight Limited Edition Canvas Print. This exquisite piece of art captures the incredible story of Lieutenant Guy Haydon and his beloved black mare Midnight.
Lieutenant Guy Haydon and Midnight were an inseparable duo, hailing from the property "Bloomfield" in the Hunter Valley, NSW. They joined the 12th Light Horse Regiment in 1915 and quickly became renowned for their exceptional equestrian skills.
During their time in Egypt, the Australian Light Horse were chosen to represent Australia in a friendly equestrian competition against the British. Midnight, the magnificent black mare, emerged victorious in the Sprint Race, Flag Race, and Equitation Test, showcasing her remarkable speed and agility.
Their journey together reached its climax on the 31st of October 1917, when Lieutenant Haydon led his men riding Midnight in a charge against the Turkish stronghold of Beersheba. Tragically, Midnight was mortally wounded during the charge, but Lieutenant Haydon survived, albeit with life-altering injuries.
